A hospital needs to hire 300 Nurses in a short period of time

The Company

This hospital is one of the largest rehabilitation care facilities in the Atlantic North East. The facility provides inpatient, outpatient, outreach and clinical support services.

The Need

The HR department for the hospital had learned that while many nurses enjoy and are well suited to provide rehab care, others find the job less appealing and prefer a more traditional hospital environment. This preference is often not realized until after the nurse has been hired to and trained for the position. Both parties have then made an investment they are reluctant to abandon but the situation promotes job dissatisfaction and excessive employee turnover.

The hospital had committed to a major expansion and needed to hire 300 new Registered Practical Nurses. The HR department sought ways to streamline the hiring process and to find applicants who would be well-suited to the work environment and the position.

The Solution

Prevue HR Systems developed a Job Fit Benchmark for the position of Registered Practical Nurse at the hospital. This benchmark was developed by surveying and consulting with a group of Rehab Nurse Supervisors utilizing the online Prevue Job Description Survey. The benchmark development process captured both the characteristics that distinguished engaged and effective Rehab nurses and the unique cultural environment at the rehab facility.

To assist the hospital in developing an effective hiring process, Prevue HR Systems provided the hospital with a branded career and applicant processing site (Prevue APS Pro). This career site was integrated with the existing hospital website to provide an online facility for processing all applications to fill the 300 job openings. Every applicant was directed to the online career site to answer a set of qualifying questions and complete the Prevue Personality test. The hospital launched an aggressive recruiting campaign and armed with the testing and technology supplied by Prevue HR Systems was able to hire all 300 Nurses within the budget and timeframe established by the hospital while at the same time improving their employee retention metrics.

The entire program was delivered within 2 weeks from the hospital’s decision to proceed. The hospital initially purchased a block of Assessments and an annual license for the Prevue APS Pro career site. Over the next two years the hospital converted to a 3 year unlimited use Prevue license and expanded its use of the career site to include every available job opening.
